We're done with book 2! I will post tomorrow about the pages and such for next weeks book.
We are going to do something a little different again this week. I have final questions I found for the book online for us to answer.
Here we go.
Week 5 (final week) Prompts:
Spoiler Warning: These book club discussion questions on House Rules by Jodi Picoult reveal important details about the book. Finish the novel before reading on.
1.Did the title of the book, "House Rules," clue you in to the solution of the murder? Why were the house rules so important to Jacob? I started to really see the connection. He kept saying over and over that he was following the rules and he HAD to do it.
2.Did you guess what happened at Jess' house before the end of the book? I didn't guess. I knew due to a shabby review I read early on. Stupid people should put warnings. lol.
3.Was it believable that Jacob would try to cover for Theo without understanding that he was implicating himself in the murder? Yes. Without a doubt. Not only was it his element to notice something like that but to twist it that way he wanted it. He almost made it into a game. But it was a rule. He's very serious about the rules and he knew he needed to watch out for his little brother (and get to be the big brother for once).
4.What do you think happened to the characters after they went to tell the judge about Theo being at the house? Were you upset that there was not more of a conclusion to the story? I have no idea! But I really wish they would have told us! Jacob should have gotten off of the murder charge, but you never really know.
5.Do you think an insanity defense if appropriate for someone with Asperger's? Why or why not? I don't know. I can see the point they had about how he just "snaps" and can't help it. But he's not insane.
6.Do you know anyone with Asperger's syndrome? Did the descriptions of Jacob fit what you know of that person? All I know is Jordan, but not in a way that I could really judge it. All I know is he is super loving and loves dinosaurs (or was it just animals?).
7.Did you learn anything new about Asperger's syndrome? Tons. I never knew everything that went with it. I'm sure not all of this was 100% correct but reading from Jacobs point of view was really neat. Knowing what he was thinking made things different while I was reading.
8.What did you think of Oliver's romance with Jacob's mother? I loved it! I think he's so good for her and he really cares about both of the kids. He understands Jacob is different but tries to treat him as normal as he can.
9.Rate House Rules on a scale of 1 to 5. 4. I wanted more of an ending.

"House rules" Week 4
If you're not reading with us not, but you want to get in on the next book! Vote! We love having new people join us!
First. I'm sitting here at one in the morning, listening to Glee music with all the light out watching this AMAZING thunder storm we have going here! I'm lov'n it tonight! Ok, on to the book.
Wow. This book is getting better and better! I have to be honest I don't really have much of a question this week. I just don't know what to ask! So lets try something new.......post your own question on your page and everyone can answer it in your comments.
Week 4 prompt: How are you liking the book now that we are getting close to the end? Is it what you expected?
My answers- I love this book. I like how Oliver is with Jacob, even though he wants to lie, I feel he's really looking out for him and truly cares about the family. I hate the courts, but I'm glad they are giving him some exceptions to make it easier on him.

BBC "House Rules" week 3
Hey everyone! I know a few of us are really busy right now, so come back and post whenever you can! I wanted to let you know that we are going to start the voting for the next book today or tomorrow. I don't think I'm going to do a side poll since way too many people voted that aren't in the book club. We will comment on the post I put up so I can count who voted that's in the BBC. If you don't mind, I would like to vote for the next two books (since I'm going home for the summer and want to bring them with me if I have them already). Anyway, look for that post within the next day or so and we will go from there.
Week 3 prompt: What do you think of the competency hearing? After hearing what happened in the other trial (the Bean case) did it change your feelings about how the hearing went?
and as always how are you feeling about the book?
My answers- I was mad about the hearing as it was going on and after. I thought it was unfair that they were asking him those questions. I felt like they really didn't take the autism into account when questioning him (but they really haven't the whole book). But after hearing about the Bean kid, I realized that it's unfair any way you do it. If that kid didn't get off who the hell would?
I like the book a lot. I just wish they understood Jacob a little bit more. It's hard reading what he's thinking and knowing that they just don't get him.

BBC "House Rules" Week 2
I hope everyone is having a good week and is enjoying the book. It's sooo much different then the last one!
Week 2 Prompt: In the book Theo talks about how he's scared to have kids and doesn't ever want to have any. Do you feel his feeling are valid?
As always, what are your feelings about the book this week?
My answers- I think they are valid mostly because he's so young. I'm sure as he gets older his feelings will change. I hate how Emma has pushed him aside, I think if she did a better job at making the family life more equal, he wouldn't be so bent out of shape about everything. He life is all about Jacob, she sees right through Theo. It makes my heart hurt for him.
I'm really enjoying the book. I know where its going so I don't want to say too much.

BBC "House Rules" Week 1
Hey! I hope everyone is having a great week and enjoying this months book! It's a lot different then the last one (but that's what book clubs are for, right!?). As always, add your link. If you're not done with this weeks reading come back and add it anytime! OK here we go....
Week 1 Prompt: What are your thought on the vaccination/autism link? If you are a parent, did it make you do things differently with your child (no right or wrong answers here! This is not a debate forum). If you aren't a parent, if you were to have children would this new found research change how you would go about getting your child vaccinated?
Also, as always, what do you think of the book?
My answers- I have to admit it did change how J and I did things when it came to Landon's shots. He got them all, but at a delayed pace. I'm glad we did things the way we did, it was peace of mind at the time. We got some slack for it, I have to admit. Some of the doctors aren't for it, but we are happy with what decision we made.
I'm really liking this book. I have to say that I'm already a Jodi Picoult fan, so I'm used to her writing and the way she jumps from person to person. I like the way the story is going and I'm curious to see where it's going to end. My only problem so far is the Jacob "chapters" I don't feel that they are really written in the way he would talk, it's almost like it's someone else telling it from his point of view? does that make sense? I have to say that I really feel for the brother and I feel sorry for him(I hate how he's acting out though). I can't imagine how he must feel.
If you don't know how to link-up. What you do is write your blog post, click on the post name, go to the VERY top and copy the http:, then paste it in the box! and don't forget to put your name in the other box so we know who you are!

Book 2 "House Rules" Start
Everyone ready for the next book? I know we are still getting the feel of this so if you have any changes you think might work better, please let me know! I think we're still going to do check-ins on Thursdays. It seemed to work well for everyone. We are going to take 5 weeks this time since it's a bit bigger of a book.
We are starting the reading today (next week will be our first check in). So if you're new and you want to join us, please do! The more the merrier! We have rules posted over to the right on my blog "About the BBC". Read the rules and join in!
Here is the reading list of pages/chapters. It's a little difficult to explain due to how it's written so those on E-readers feel free to message me if this makes no sense. You might understand better once you start reading though.
Week 1- Read pages 1-106 (for e-readers stop when you get to (3-Theo)
Week 2- Read pages 106-210 (for e-readers stop when you get to (5-Jacob)
Week 3- Read pages 210-319 (for e-readers stop when you get to (7-2nd Emma. it's doesn't say 2nd but it's the second time you get to a chapter of hers in 7)
Week 4- Read pages 319-422 (for e-readers stop when you get to (9-Rich)
Week 5- Read pages 422-the end.
I know I said it in the rules, but you are more then welcome to read ahead. But please, don't spoil the book. Jodi Picoult books have a lot to them and it could be ruined easily. I just jot down what has happened when I reach my stopping point for that week, then I go on. That way I don't give away major details.
Happy Reading!

BBC Book 2. House Rules.
With 44% of the votes......
The next book up is...... This looks like a really good book. It's a bit longer then the one we are reading now so we are going to take 5 weeks to finish it. I have the weeks mapped out already, but it's going to be a little different since the chapters don't really have numbers for those on e-readers (I think I have it all figured out though).
If you want to recommend a book to go on the list for the next vote, please let me know. I am going to be putting the other two that got a lot of votes on the next poll also.
